On Wednesday 26 May, the RCM held its second online fundraising event, The More Music Virtual Gala: Reimagining the Future.

The event was hosted live from the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall by RCM Director Professor Colin Lawson CBE FRCM and Lily Harriss MBA HonRCM, and opened with heartfelt messages from RCM President His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales and RCM Chairman Lord Black of Brentwood.

The evening showcased talent from across the College, opening with Casey Cangelosi’s Bad Touch performed by Kelvin Chan, and Fanfare for Progress composed by RCM alumnus Ryan Linham, played by RCM students Ruby Orlowska, Thomas Fountain, Emily Bristow and John Kerr. This was followed by a lively performance of Take the 'A' Train by the RCM Jazz Orchestra.

After an engaging conversation about the work of the Junior Department led by Director of Programmes Dr Diana Salazar, Junior Department student Jacky Zhang played Nikolai Medtner’s enchanting 2 Skazki op 2. The RCM Wind Ensemble performed Strauss’s Serenade in E-flat op 7, one of the masterpieces of the wind ensemble repertoire.

The gala was a great success and raised just over £100,000 to fund core student activity and directly support RCM musicians across the College, from Sparks and the Junior Department to Senior College.Funds were raised through sponsorship, donations and an online raffle. Thank you again to all those who supported this event; we are immensely grateful for your generosity.

Thank you to Geoff Richards HonRCM, Lead Sponsor of the More Music Virtual Gala.
